About Course
The Edu20/20 Virtual Instructional Coaching Institute is the recorded format of our two-day Institute for instructional coaches and leaders.
The training begins with the foundation of Priority Skills and how to create instructional goals that guide your coaching work. From there, we cover how to differentiate support through two coaching paths and different coaching styles, organize your coaching schedule, and carry out a complete coaching cycle.
Throughout the Institute, we focus on:
- Priority Skills: Understanding the instructional skills teachers need and identifying where to focus coaching.
- Instructional goals: Creating goals that give your coaching work direction and guide decisions about teacher support.
- Differentiated coaching: Selecting between two coaching paths and using different coaching styles to meet teachers’ needs.
- Coaching logistics and scheduling: Planning and managing coaching cycles so the work is consistent and manageable.
- The complete coaching cycle: Leading the pre-conference, gathering classroom data and taking notes, and conducting the debrief.
- Trust and resistance: Building relationships with teachers, navigating pushback, and practicing difficult coaching conversations.
Each area includes direct instruction, application and simulation activities, and opportunities to practice. Coaches and leaders receive forms, templates, and step-by-step guides to help them use what they learn in their school or district.
The training includes How to Coach Teachers to Teach (Almost) Anything by Jill Jackson and the accompanying workbook. Day 1 and Day 2 recordings can be completed across multiple sessions and revisited within your access window.
